The clinical experience builds from one case to another. Even with medical imaging becoming somewhat more accessible around the world, there still are some special cases detected quite rarely.
One of such rare cases is ectopic thyroid, although recently there is a tendency of increasing of this diagnosis.
The case we present today was diagnosed in 52 year old male recently. Physical examination showed multiple nodules in both lungs, and the possibility of neoplastic lesions had to be ruled out for nodules in the left lower lung. PET/CT scanning revealed nodular soft tissue density shadows were seen in the posterior segment of the left lower lobe, with shallow lobes at the margin, about 11×12 mm in size.
The size of the lesion is about 10×12mm, and part of the gray brown matter on the cut surface is jelly-like. A diagnosis of intrapulmonary ectopic goiter was made.
